END Cards
This may be my best idea. If you look for one good idea from a book, this may be mine.
Naturally I stole the underlying principle but the END cards are my idea.
Give it a try. It really works.
Let’s get right into it. Here is chapter 12 of Five Life-Changing Ideas.
Carl Jung was a big believer in themes. The stories we tell ourselves and the things we do all have patterns. These themes impact our lives and help guide our thoughts and actions.
To discover your themes, you’ll need to get out some index cards (any size).
You’ll want 45 of them.
On 15 cards, write down something you Enjoy—one event, task or activity for each card.
On 15 cards, write down something Neutral.
And on 15 cards, write down things you Dread (one per card)
Now shuffle the cards and randomly select 3 of them.
Compare the 3 card and ask “what do 2 of the cards have in common that is different from the 3rd card?”
Begin jotting down all of the themes you discover. You can write one word, several or describe it in detail.
Repeat several times
Repeat as needed
Summary
How does what you do differ from the ideas you’ve listed before?
How are they the same?
