People You Don’t Know
We’ve looked at your childhood, your family and your friends. Now it’s time to consider those you admire, and the stories you tell yourself.
Let’s get right into it. Here is chapter 5 of Five Life-Changing Ideas.
As influenced as we are by the people we know, we are also impacted by people we don’t know. We live in a world filled with celebrities from television, movies, sports and politics.
We can learn something about ourselves by examining what influences our thinking.
What are your favorite movies?
What genre do most fall into?
What are your favorite TV shows?
What style would you call them?
What are your favorite books?
Which books do you re-read?
Do you re-read or re-watch the same things over again? What’s the most you’ve re-done?
If you often revisit your favorites, what does that tell you about yourself?
If you never re-read books or re-watch anything, what does that tell you about yourself?
What styles of music do you like best?
Characterize your music (dramatic, happy, challenging, stimulating, etc.):
What type of art is your favorite?
Which celebrities do you know the most about?
Which magazines do you regularly read?
If you were a superhero, which one would you be?
What great things would you do with your superpowers?
How much of your life is spent waiting for someone to rescue you? In what ways are you still waiting?
When you think of being a celebrity yourself, what comes to mind?
Who has been a hero or role model for you?
Who looks up to you?
