I’m Ken Tangen. I teach and write about psychology. It’s a bit about me.
This is me when I was young. I got a croquet set for Christmas. But always had to share it. Not really yours when everyone else uses it. High school me in San Francisco. Me as I think of myself. A tiny picture of me singing at a Christmas concert. Me, as usual, in a hat.
This is me and my family when we were young, many years ago. The younger daughter is now a high school science teacher. The older daughter is now disabled and spends here days in a hospital bed. My wife of 40+ years looks about the same. How she stays so young is a mystery.
This is me as an adult.
Me now that I’m old. My friend Andrew Bosley did this caricature for me (no mustache in real life). I’ve become more cartoonish, don’t you think?
I look the same because I’m an albino. I’ve had white hair and glasses all my life (as far back as I can recall anyway). I was teased about it as a child; had some tough years. But I don’t stand out as much anymore because everyone else is catching up with me. I made white hair and glasses fashionable!
I live in southern California (south of Disneyland, just before you hit the beach). But I have students from all over the world.
I love to teach. In colleges and universities, I teach courses in psychology. Over the years I’ve taught personality, statistics, general psychology, learning, memory, lifespan development and biological psych. I’ve had classes of 30, 50, 100 and 300 students. But more and more, I’m teaching online.
This site is devoted to you. The posts, books and courses fall into the general category of self-help. productivity and personal growth.
My degrees are in psychology. Specifically, I earned a BA in psychology, a masters in counseling psychology, and a PhD in educational psychology. But mostly, I think of myself as a cognitive scientist. Or more simply as a teacher.
Let me enlist your help. When you find something I’ve screwed up, let me know. I have very little ego when it comes to helping others. So when you have a suggestion, send it on to me. My students, readers, listeners and I will thank you.
